The National Coordinating Committee (NCC) of the Road to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Cameroon, 2021, on Wednesday held its maiden press briefing at the Independence Stadium Board Room in Bakau.
The Committee is excepted to raise about D120 Million to facilitate the preparation for Gambia’s maiden participation.
Speaking at the press briefing, Mr Lamin Kaba Bajo, President of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) who equally doubled as Vice Chairman of the Committee called on the football family and Gambians to contribute to the course. He appealed to Gambians both in the country and in the diaspora to be committed to the course to support the National Team.
“We are looking for 120 Million and all we have so far is a pledged of half a million by the President,” he said.
“We are scheduled for a training camp in Morocco next month. There will be another in November before we have pre-tournament matches so the team is scheduled to have a good preparation if all goes according to plan.”
Musa Sise , Chairman Media and Publicity committee equally called on the public to come forward and supports team which he describe as own by the people.
He informed the media of the series of activities lined up to raise the required funds.
He highlighted the level of preparation the committee is setting up.
“We called this press conference to update the public on what is done, what is needs to be done and how it’s going to be done.
We have already started negotiations with the public and private sectors and some are at an advanced stage. But we can’t do this alone; we need everyone, we will create the platforms for people to contribute,” Sise discloses.
He urged journalists to use their platforms and disseminate the information to the public. Sise told Journalist that press briefings would be held every fourth night to update the public of the activities of the committee.
